10 Fitting Tips for Right & Left-Handed Golfers

Finding the right putter fit can completely change your putting confidence. Here are 10 quick tips for both right and left-handed golfers:

  1. Pulled/Missed Putts (Left for Right-Handers / Right for Left-Handers):

    • If you play a Full-Offset putter, try a Half-Offset.

    • If you play a Half-Offset, try a Center Shaft Non-Offset putter.

  2. Pushed/Missed Putts (Right for Right-Handers / Left for Left-Handers):

    • If you play a Half-Offset, try a Full-Offset.

    • If you play a No-Offset, try a Half-Offset putter.

  3. Leaving Putts Short of the Cup:

    • If you use a standard 350–360g head weight, consider moving up to 380–410g.

    • On a 10-foot putt, that can add 2–3” of distance. On a 20-foot putt, 4–5” with the same stroke speed.

  4. Straight-Back, Straight-Through Stroke:

    • Look for Face-Balanced putters.

  5. Arc Stroke (Inside–Square–Inside):

    • Look for Toe-Balanced putters.

  6. Too Wristy in Your Stroke:

    • Try a larger grip or a Counter-Balance putter that’s 3–4 inches longer than standard.

  7. Need More Control & Feel:

    • Move into the 390–410g range to steady your stroke and improve feedback.

  8. Align Using Heel-to-Toe Sightlines:

    • A Blade putter with clear alignment lines may suit you best.

  9. Align Using Front-to-Back Flange:

    • A Mallet putter with strong alignment features is a better match.

  10. Struggling with the Yips (Short Putts 3–4 Feet):

  • Popular solutions are Long Broom-Style, Side Saddle, or even Two-Way putters—especially helpful for older players.
